ECOC 2023: Testing the new optical evolution

Oct. 16, 2023
Test vendors offered new solutions to help providers verify quality and performance.

While there was no shortage of optical components and system vendors showing new wares that will satisfy growing bandwidth requirements for providers and data center operators, the need for testing has never been greater.

At ECOC, testing providers Keysight, Viavi and Quantifi all showed new testing innovations:

Keysight: The company’s latest family of swept-wavelength test products pathwave offers the ability to test the frequency response of optoelectronic devices like Mach-Zehnder and ring-resonator modulators, which require sufficient measurable dynamic range, significantly above 67 GHz for devices with 200 Gbps/lane.

Quantifi: Quantifi took the time to introduce its new line of digital sampling oscilloscopes. Set to launch in 2024; the new DSO-1000 series oscilloscope platform allows manufacturers of next-gen interconnects to scale production to high volumes.

VIAVI: Viavi announced that its second 400G Test Module for the VIAVI OneAdvisor 800 Transport is now available. The new module also allows users in multi-rack environments to quickly test 400G AOC/AEC/DAC cables with one unit.

Being able to test in multiple complex environments will become more pressing as data center providers and providers scale speeds and reach.
