Infinera: High-Speed Bus. Services Over Existing PON Infrastructure

Feb. 21, 2024
Infinera's ICE-X’s support of single fiber working (SFW) enables PON network operators to take a phased and business-paced approach to deploy ICE-X over their existing GPON/XGS-PON/NG-PON2 infrastructure without network or service disruption.

While PON networks are highly suitable for residential services, the technology needs to catch up with the ever-increasing demand for capacity triggered by next-generation business services and 5G mobile transport. Infinera’s ICE-X coherent pluggables, designed and optimized to provide scalable and highly flexible business services while leveraging existing PON infrastructure – overlaying coherent networking over current PON infrastructure, are an answer to this problem. ICE-X’s support of single fiber working (SFW) enables PON network operators to take a phased and business-paced approach to deploy ICE-X over their existing GPON/XGS-PON/NG-PON2 infrastructure without network or service disruption. This approach enables increased capacity for high-speed business services, with up to 400G shared between customers versus sharing 10G/25G in current XGS-PON or newer 25/50G-PON networks.
