YOFC, China Telecom Research Institute, and ZTE set world record for single fiber real-time transmission rate

April 16, 2024
The group achieved a real-time, single-direction transmission rate of over 120 Tbps on a single fiber.

On April 10, Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable Joint Stock Limited Company (YOFC) announced that it, China Telecom Research Institute, and ZTE Corporation recently completed an S+C+L multi-band high-capacity transmission experiment utilizing standard single-mode quartz optical fiber, achieving a maximum real-time single-wavelength rate of 1.2 Tbps and a single optical fiber single-direction transmission rate exceeding 120 Tbps.

In a press release, YOFC reported that, in addition to the use of its ultra-low attenuation, large effective area optical fiber, the record-setting achievement was attained through high-performing algorithms employed by China Telecom Research Institute that maximize spectrum efficiency, ZTE’s multi-band system filler wave and automatic power balancing technology, and industry-leading co-packaged optics.
