Yenista extends bandwidth tunability of Xtract filter

MARCH 16, 2009 -- Yenista will release the extended variable bandwidth option for its Xtract optical tunable filter at OFC/NFOEC 2009.

MARCH 16, 2009 -- Yenista Optics SA (search Lightwave for Yenista), a provider of fiber-optic test and measurement products for laboratories and manufacturing, has released the extended variable bandwidth (EVBW) option of the Xtract optical tunable filter.

To increase network efficiency, network equipment vendors are developing new modulation formats and increasing bit rate to 100 Gbps, resulting in a broadening of the optical signal. The company says its EVBW option allows tuning of the filter's bandwidth (FWHM) from 150 to 1000 pm, enabling clean channel extraction from ultradense WDM systems to high-bit-rate systems, up to 100 Gbps with no limitation in modulation format. The Xtract is a benchtop tunable filter featuring low loss, spectral coverage from 1,450 to 1,650 nm, ±15-pm autopositioning, and high flat-top and sharp optical response.

The Xtract with EVBW option will be released at OFC 2009 and shipment will start in April.
