MARCH 25, 2010 -- Telenor Group, a Norwegian global telecommunications services provider, has signed an agreement for Transmode's WDM equipment to build a new optical DWDM metro core network in Norway. Telenor is deploying Transmode's TM-Series throughout 200 sites to meet the increasing demand for capacity from both fixed and mobile broadband traffic.

"It is essential for us to have a cost-effective, flexible, and scalable solution to meet new multiservice demands and deliver the best quality services to our customers," says Bjorn Netland, director of broadband networks at Telenor. "We chose Transmode from several other suppliers because it offered us a flexible and reliable metro DWDM solution at the lowest total cost of ownership."

Telenor is offering 1Gbps Ethernet services and will now be able to upgrade to 10Gbps rapidly. The company intends to offer HDTV services over the network and will be able to provide customers with more IP-based services. Bjorn Netland adds, "My main aim is to ensure we can meet the future requirements of our customers without adding large operational costs. I need to ensure the lowest possible total cost of ownership of the network and maximize flexibility."

The Transmode TM-Series provides operators with a flexible and scalable WDM platform for applications ranging from regional and national networks to metro and campus networks. The platform includes functionality such as integrated ROADM and Layer 2 Ethernet, including Transmode's Intelligent WDM (iWDM) technology.
