Southern Light deploys Optelian’s LightGAIN, LightMUX optical transport systems

SEPTEMBER 13, 2010 -- Optelian says that Southern Light, a U.S. provider of fiber-optic-based communications services, has widely deployed Optelian’s LightGAIN and LightMUX systems to support rapid growth.

SEPTEMBER 13, 2010 -- Optelian says that Southern Light, a U.S. provider of fiber-optic-based communications services, has widely deployed Optelian’s LightGAIN and LightMUX systems to support rapid growth.

Southern Light deployed Optelian’s LightGAIN and LightMUX systems, supporting both legacy TDM and newer Ethernet aggregation, in a variety of applications, particularly cellular backhaul and fiber to the tower (FTTT). Optelian says its systems provide Southern Light a scalable network that can easily be modified to respond to increased customer demand while maximizing the utilization of their existing fiber plant.

“Optelian’s optical transport systems will allow us to grow exponentially along congested fiber routes and transport a variety of services to better meet our customer’s needs,” said Jack De La Garza, CTO, Southern Light. “We are most impressed with the ease of use and the reliability of Optelian products.”

“Southern Light had many different applications, so the easy plug and play engineering of Optelian’s solutions served them well,” said Dave Mills, VP Sales at Optelian. “They deployed 40-channel active (includes transponders) DWDM and used active and passive CWDM extensively. They used muxponders for both Ethernet and OC-48 aggregation. They also took advantage of Optelian’s custom design capabilities to develop a CWDM OADM module for their diversely routed FTTT application.”
