NOVEMBER 15, 2010 -- Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) has introduced its next-generation router. At 240 Gbps/slot, the Juniper Networks T4000 Core Router is the industry's fastest core routing platform, Juniper insists.

The T4000 is built and optimized for transport networks, the service provider backbone, and major peering points. With 4 Tbps of line rate throughput in a half rack chassis, the T4000 will facilitate the continued rapid increase in multimedia applications, including enterprise collaboration and mobile video conferencing as well as new and emerging cloud and research applications, Juniper says.

The T4000 will support a diversity of interfaces, optimized to deliver the benefits of 10/40/100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE). In addition to supporting all existing T640 and T1600 interfaces, the new interface cards include:

  • 12x10GbE
  • 1x100GbE with CFP
  • 2x40GbE with CFP

At 2.7 W of power per gigabit of processed traffic, the T4000 is more than 3X as efficient as Juniper’s existing T1600 Core Router.

Said Kevin McElearney, vice president of network engineering at Comcast, “Juniper has been an important technology partner in helping us grow and evolve our network to meet increasing customer demands, and the capabilities of Juniper's T4000 look promising in helping us expand even further.”
