Business communications services provider Integra Telecom Inc. has leveraged Ethernet-over-copper (EoC) technology from Overture Networks to expand its Ethernet services offerings. Integra will use the equipment to deliver Carrier Ethernet services to approximately 400,000 customers.

Integra has rolled out its network to a number of new locations this year in an effort to expand both its footprint and services offerings. The carrier is using both fiber (see “Integra Telecom develops fiber network”) and copper-based technologies.

On the copper side, Integra plans to upgrade its current offerings -- which are available in 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 Mbps -- to 100 Mbps using the Overture Networks technology in more than 120 central offices (COs).

“Integra places a high premium on exceeding customer expectations and providing the highest quality products, and we leverage best-in-class technology platforms to do it,” said Craig Heidgerken, Integra’s vice president of corporate engineering. “Integra selected Overture Networks as a key partner based on the ease-of-use, quality, and reliability of its leading edge EoC solutions, as well as its demonstrated commitment to superior service and support. Overture is a natural fit for us and we are very pleased to be working together to effectively serve our swiftly growing customer base.”

“Overture’s best-of-breed EoC solutions are the ideal complement to Integra’s existing fiber network -- integrating these platforms into its network will result in increased overall market reach and faster time to service, bringing significant added value to its customers,” said Kevin Sheehan, president, Overture Networks. “The adoption of forward-looking strategies, melding the latest and best EoC and fiber innovations, is a testament to Integra’s dedication to delivering world-class Ethernet services to its customers. Integra is well-positioned to maintain its role as a true market and industry leader, and Overture is pleased to be part of this process.”
