Aurora Networks touts full-spectrum, multi-wavelength transmitters

Aurora Networks Inc., which specializes in optical transport equipment for cable operators and MSOs, says it plans to show off a wide range full spectrum, multi-wavelength transmitters at next month’s SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in Atlanta, November 15-17.

The company says such full-spectrum, multi-wavelength transmitters are becoming increasingly important as a segmentation tool to enable cable operators to increase bandwidth per subscriber without installing new fiber. The transmitters include the LcWDM optimized for the 1310-nm O-Band and the AT3545G and AT3552 families focused on the 1550-nm C-Band. All are three families feature single-width modules. All can be used simultaneously as well to enable up to 24 wavelengths per fiber.

In addition to meeting current capacity needs, the transmitters also support both analog and QAM loading. Cable operators can therefore use them to pave the way to full QAM capabilities, including an evolution to future Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP) deployment, Aurora Networks asserts. “Increasing network capacity has traditionally gone hand-in-hand with expensive fiber construction,” says John Dahlquist, vice president, marketing, Aurora Networks. “Our full-spectrum, multi-wavelength transmitters enable cable operators to at least quadruple their capacity-per-subscriber without the need for fiber construction – resulting in a huge cost-saving to the operator compared with traditional methods.”
