Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) says that Russian service provider TransTeleCom (TTK) will use the Juniper Networks MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers on its fiber-optic network. The routers will support delivery of applications and services such as IP-VPN, L2-VPN, and video conferencing across Russia as well as IP-transit to TTK’s subscribers.

TTK runs an extensive fiber-optic network consisting of 75,000 km of cables that run along railway lines as well as 1,000 access nodes.

"We continue to modernize our network to meet the needs of our clients," says Vitaly Kotov, vice-president, head of TTK's backbone unit. "We selected the new generation routers from Juniper Networks to deliver a high-performance network infrastructure that can cope with exponential traffic growth while containing cost and maximizing service agility."

"To gain competitive advantage, increase market share and remain profitable, service providers need to maximize network performance and availability while improving operational efficiency," said Mike Marcellin, vice president, systems strategy and marketing, Platform Systems Division, Juniper Networks. "TTK turned to Juniper's Universal Edge Routing portfolio to meet the experience expectations of their divergent subscriber base while building in the scalability necessary for future growth with an architecture that fully monetizes the network for the long term."
