  • 12/21/2012 -- Infonetics: Tunable transceivers, 100G pace optical transceiver growth
    Once the final numbers for 2012 are tallied, sales of optical transceivers and transponders will have risen 7% this year, believes market research firm Infonetics Research. Tunable transceivers and 100-Gbps transceivers will have set the pace, Infonetics analysts say. The news should continue to be good in 2013 as well, the company expects.
  • 12/17/2012 -- Sprint agrees to Clearwire acquisition
    Sprint (NYSE:S) has reached an agreement to pay approximately $2.2 billion for the Clearwire (NASDAQ: CLWR) shares it doesn’t already own. The price tag equates to $2.97 per share for the approximately 50% of Clearwire shares outside of Sprint’s control. Sprint originally had offered $2.60 per share on November 21.
  • 12/10/2012 -- Finisar hits second quarter revenue, hints at more growth
    Finisar Corp. (NASDAQ: FNSR) announced December 5 that revenue for its fiscal second quarter, ended October 28, reached $232 million. This figure fell within the mid-range of its previously issued guidance (see “Finisar: Revenues down but turnaround imminent”). Despite upcoming pricing pressures the company also set a revenue expectation of flat to positive for the third fiscal quarter.
  • 12/14/2012 -- Dark fiber provider Litecast latest Zayo acquisition
    Zayo Group LLC will whip out the check book once again, this time to buy Litecast/Balticore, LLC. The Baltimore-based provider of dark fiber and other fiber-optic network services will cost Zayo $22 million in cash on hand.
  • 12/11/2012 -- Emulex adds network monitoring with Endace acquisition
    Emulex Corp. (NYSE: ELX), a provider of data center networking products, has issued a Takeover Notice, under the terms of the New Zealand Takeovers Code, pursuant to which Emulex will make an offer to acquire all of the outstanding equity interests in Endace Ltd. (LSE: EDA), in an all cash transaction.
  • 12/04/2012 -- PON, VDSL, cable equipment sales continue growth in 3Q12, says Dell'Oro
    Sales of systems for access networks – which includes PON, DSL, and cable hybrid fiber/coax equipment – grew by a “moderate” 6% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2012, according to a new report by Dell’Oro Group. PON systems were the stars, advancing 21% over the same quarter of 2011.
  • 11/30/2012 -- Kelly new Tellabs CEO and president
    Daniel P. Kelly, 51, was appointed Tellabs' new chief executive officer and president. Kelly will assume the roles full time after serving as Tellabs’ acting CEO and president since June 27, 2012.
  • 11/28/2012 -- Carriers to spend $1B on small cell backhaul by 2017 says Mobile Experts
    Market research firm Mobile Experts has issued a forecast predicting that carriers will spend as much as $1 billion by 2017 to backhaul the femtocells, picocells, microcells, and metrocells needed to support next-generation wireless services. Fiber-based mobile backhaul technology may miss out on most of this outlay, the company suggests.
  • 11/21/2012 -- Optical hardware sales shrink y-o-y for third straight quarter, says Ovum
    Revenues for the optical networking systems segment retreated year-on-year for the third consecutive quarter in 3Q12, asserts market research firm Ovum. And vendors shouldn’t count on the usual fourth quarter spending spree to make things right, add Ovum analysts.
  • 11/16/2012 -- SONET/SDH sales shrinkage weighs down optical hardware sales in 3Q12 says Infonetics
    Continued growth in spending on WDM equipment was not enough to offset the steep decline in SONET/SDH system revenues, leading to a 2% sequential decline in fiber-optic network hardware sales in the third quarter of 2012. Infonetics Research reported the details in its 3Q12 Optical Network Hardware vendor market share report.
