  • 08/27/2012 -- Dell'Oro: 2012 optical transport equipment market shrinking
    Sales of optical network hardware in the first half of 2012 declined 5% versus the same period in 2011, according to a newly published report by Dell’Oro Group.
  • 07/17/2012 -- Ovum: Global service provider switching and routing sales to hit $15.4B this year
    The global service provider switching and routing (SPSR) market may not have gotten off to a good start this year, but should right itself by the end of this year, according to market research and consulting firm Ovum. SPSR sales should grow 4.4% to $15.4 billion this year, according to Ovum’s “Market Share Alert: 1Q12 SP Switching & Routing.”
  • 05/29/2012 -- Dell'Oro: 1Q12 access equipment revenue slips slightly
    The Dell’Oro Group says in a newly published report that first quarter 2012 revenue for access equipment (cable, DSL, and PON) including infrastructure equipment and CPE declined 8% sequentially. The shrinkage was significantly smaller than reported by Infonetics Research, which pegged the dropped at 22%.
  • 05/03/2012 -- Infonetics pegs optical transceiver sales at $3.3 billion in 2016
    Growth in 100-Gbps, tunable, and SFP+ optical modules points toward an overall expansion of the optical transceiver market, according to Infonetics Research. The market research firm expects the optical transceiver market to be worth $3.3 billion, according to its newly released 10G/40G/100G Optical Transceivers Market Size and Forecast.

    Vendors across the communications ecosystem have complained during the first half of this year about slow telco spending. But the capital expenditures (capex) should start flowing again soon, according to Infonetics Research’s new report, Service Provider Capex, Revenue, and Capex-by-Equipment-Type.

    US enterprises and consumers are expected to spend more than $47 billion on Ethernet services provided by carriers over the next five years, according to new market analysis from The Insight Research Corp.
  • 08/28/2012 -- TeliaSonera sells MediaConnect business to Hibernia Media
    Hibernia Media, the video transport division of Hibernia Atlantic, has acquired the MediaConnect business in Europe and the United States of Scandinavian carrier TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC). The business will continue to operate over TSIC’s fiber backbone.
  • 08/27/2012 -- Birck, citing cancer, to step down as Tellabs chairman
    Tellabs Chairman and Co-Founer Michael J. Birck has revealed that he has contracted a rare form of leukemia and will retire when his current term runs out next spring. This is the second time this year that cancer has struck a senior member of the Tellabs management team. CEO Rob Pullen died of cancer in July.
  • 10/09/2012 -- U.S. House Intelligence Committee sees Huawei and ZTE as security threats
    After an 11-month investigation, the U.S. House Intelligence Committee issued a report yesterday that characterizes Huawei and ZTE as potential threats to U.S. security because of the committee’s belief that the companies are too closely tied to the Chinese government, Reuters and other news services reported. While the committee stopped short of banning U.S. companies from doing business with the two Chinese telecom giants, the report’s recommendation that companies avoid involving the two companies in telecommunications projects only adds to the problems the two companies have had in their efforts to expand their businesses in the U.S.
