  • 07/26/2012 -- Alcatel-Lucent to cut 5000 jobs
    Dissatisfied with its current profit position after the second quarter of 2012 and concerned about the future Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) management today unveiled “The Performance Program,” an effort to cut costs and reshape the company. That reshaping will cost 5000 people their jobs, according to Alcatel-Lucent management.
  • 04/10/2012 -- Hitachi Cable merges U.S. operations
    Hitachi Cable, Ltd. says it has merged its holdings in North America into a single entity called Hitachi Cable America, Inc.
  • 05/03/2012 -- Infonetics pegs optical transceiver sales at $3.3 billion in 2016
    Growth in 100-Gbps, tunable, and SFP+ optical modules points toward an overall expansion of the optical transceiver market, according to Infonetics Research. The market research firm expects the optical transceiver market to be worth $3.3 billion, according to its newly released 10G/40G/100G Optical Transceivers Market Size and Forecast.
  • 05/08/2012 -- Ixia to acquire Anue Systems
    Network test equipment vendor Ixia says it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Anue Systems, Inc., a developer of network visibility tools, for $145 million in cash. The figure is subject to certain adjustments, including an adjustment based on the amount of Anue’s net working capital at closing.
  • 05/30/2012 -- Infonetics: $186B spending on Carrier Ethernet over next 5 years
    Following a massive 43% increase in 2010, the global Carrier Ethernet equipment market grew at 13.4% to reach $31.7 billion in 2011, according to the latest market report from Infonetics Research.  The analyst firm expects Carrier Ethernet equipment revenue to grow at a more sedate pace over the next five years, reaching $42.4 billion in 2016.
  • 07/24/2012 -- Oclaro, Opnext merger completed
    Optical component and subsystem vendors Oclaro, Inc. (NASDAQ: OCLR) and Opnext, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPXT) have closed their planned merger, creating the second largest supplier of optical communications components, modules, and subsystems, behind Finisar. The deal, which hit a temporary snag when Oclaro had to work overtime to receive shareholder approval to issue new stock to foot the bill, closed this past Monday, July 23, the companies say.
  • 07/24/2012 -- Infinera scores 10 DTN-X customers
    Infinera Corp. (NASDAQ: INFN) revealed today in announcing its fiscal second quarter 2012 numbers that it has secured purchase orders for its new DTN-X platform from 10 customers, three of whom are new to the company. Some of the DTN-X successes have come at the expense of the company’s established DTN platform, which is one reason that revenues for the second quarter came in at the lower end of guidance.
  • 08/21/2012 -- Lumish new CEO and chairman of optical comb company Pilot Photonics
    Dr. Stan Lumish, former CTO of JDSU (and member of Lightwave’s Editorial Advisory Board), has been named CEO and chairman of Pilot Photonics Ltd., a company focused on optical comb subsystems development based in Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Lumish replaces Dr. Philip Perry, the founding CEO of the privately held company.
