Metro optical transport systems company BTI Systems says that it has supplied packet-optical transport gear to EMAXX Telecom of Cambodia. Starting in the capital of Phnom Penh, EMAXX will use the equipment to become the first provider in Cambodia to offer 4G/WiMAX services, mobile backhaul services, IPLC/DPLC connections, and Ethernet business line services, over a 10-Gbps metro Ethernet ring, BTI asserts.

“Our mission is to provide a national, high-quality, 4G communications network service for Internet and multimedia applications, including commerce, entertainment, and education for the development of Cambodia,” said Sean Ngu, CEO of EMAXX Telecom. “We required a single, unified platform to support our entire services offering and meet our transport requirements for mobile backhaul and high-performance Ethernet business line services. With BTI, we chose solutions that are cost-effective, scalable, reliable, provide low latency, and are MEF [Metro Ethernet Forum] certified, enabling us to compete aggressively.”

EMAXX has deployed the modular BTI 7000 Series packet optical networking system as well as the BTI 700 Series, an MEF-certified platform that support the provision of such Ethernet services as E-LINE and E-LAN. The company’s proNX Service Management Suite enables services configuration.

“Cambodia is a fast-growing and developing market with surging demand by consumers and businesses for mobile access to content such as video and other OTT services, as well as Ethernet business services,” said Marc Olivier, Vice President of Business Development, Asia Pacific at BTI Systems. “EMAXX is Cambodia’s first 10G metroE and they plan to expand rapidly beyond Phnom Penh to country-wide deployment. We look forward to working with them as they successfully add new subscribers and businesses and increase revenues.”
