Sea Fibre Networks (SFN), which operates the CeltixConnect undersea cable system that links Ireland with the UK, has unveiled a dark fiber offering as part of its C-Fibre portfolio of network services. The dark fiber service, which SFN calls Bright Fibre, combines fiber, co-location services, and management of the customer’s optical equipment under strict service-level agreements (SLAs).

Bright Fibre offers the benefits of dark fiber without the associated complications of management, SFN asserts. This opens dark fiber services to a wider range of potential users, including enterprises and similar entities without the internal resources to manage their networks.

"As ongoing demand for international bandwidth continues to increase, growing 45% in 2011, a new wave of companies wish to own their own network infrastructure but lack the resources. Bright Fibre facilitates these organizations to exploit new Internet-based opportunities to manage in-house with greater certainty and massive cost-savings," Diane Hodnett, Sea Fibre Networks' CEO, said.
