OTEGLOBE upgrades TransBalkan Network via Infinera DTN-X

April 3, 2013
OTEGLOBE, which provides telecommunications services to Greece and the Balkans, has upgraded its international TransBalkan Network (TBN) with the DTN-X packet-optical transport platform from Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN). The new equipment boosts the total capacity of the TBN from 600 Gbps to more than 1 Tbps.

The TBN runs from Greece to Germany, a distance of more than 8000 km. The new equipment will help the fiber-optic network support OTEGLOBE's 10-Gbps, 40-Gbps, and 100-Gbps services for its customers, including international carriers, fixed and mobile operators, and multi-site organizations.

"We have been working with Infinera since 2008 using the DTN platform in our TBN network," states Dr. Panagiota Bosdogianni, OTEGLOBE's technology director (see "OTEGLOBE taps Infinera for Pan-European network"). "During the past four years we took advantage of Infinera's solution for its flexibility, reliability, and ease of use, allowing us to activate new 10-Gbps services in minutes. Being satisfied with our Infinera experience we selected the new DTN-X platform for our recent network upgrade, which has been successfully completed without disturbing existing traffic or our network operation procedures."

"Infinera is committed to delivering the most reliable and latest technology to our customers without the expense of conventional network architectures," said Chris Champion, VP EMEA Sales. "We are excited that OTEGLOBE has deployed the Infinera DTN-X platform for their international network, bringing improved reliability to global carriers in the region."
