Alibaba taps ZTE for 100-Gbps optical transport

E-commerce company Alibaba Group has selected ZTE Corp. (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ) to supply 100-Gbps optical transport platforms on an exclusive basis for metropolitan area network (MAN) applications.

E-commerce company Alibaba Group has selected ZTE Corp. (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ) to supply 100-Gbps optical transport platforms on an exclusive basis for metropolitan area network (MAN) applications.

ZTE will supply is ZXONE 8700 100G OTN series for the 100-Gbps roll out. The first phase of the fiber-optic network deployment includes four MANs in Hangzhou, Tianjin, and Beijing.

Alibaba Group operates more than 10 e-commerce platforms, including Alibaba.com, Taobao Marketplace, Tmall.com, eTao, Alipay, Juhuasuan, Alibaba Cloud Computing, and China Yahoo! The new network will carry most of Alibaba’s data traffic, ZTE says.

“We are delighted to partner with Alibaba Group to build the 100G OTN network,” said Xu Ming, general manager of ZTE’s Bearer Network Product Division. “This agreement will help underpin the continued success and growth of Alibaba in the global e-commerce market, and recognizes the superior solutions of ZTE in 100G technology.”
