TeliaSonera deploys Infinera DTN-X in Europe

TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) has installed the DTN-X from Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN) on a fiber-optic network route between Stockholm and Hamburg. The packet-optical transport platform will support delivery of 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 100 Gigabit Ethernet services.

TSIC, which operates an intercontinental infrastructure that links 200 points of presence in Europe, North America, and Asia, has already deployed the DTN-X in its North American long-haul network (see “TeliaSonera covers Europe and North America with 100G networks”). The European deployment comes as TSIC’s service provider and enterprise customers look to support of cloud-based capabilities and connect a host of new data centers, according to Ivo Pascucci, director, sales and market, Americas for TSIC. As the DTN-X has provided flexibility, scale, and rapid service turn up in North America, TSIC expects to leverage the same capabilities on the Stockholm-to-Hamburg route, Pascucci says. The ability to deliver capacity and services more quickly than competitors has proven a distinct advantage for TSIC in North America, he adds.

This is the second deployment of the DTN-X in Europe for TSIC; Pascucci says the service provider also has installed the system on the continent to support the needs of what he describes as “a large Internet content provider.”

TSIC also is using the hiT 7300 from Coriant to provide 100-Gbps services in Europe. Pascucci declined to discuss whether his company plans to deploy the DTN-X elsewhere on the continent, either in conjunction with or as replacements for the Coriant optical transport gear.
