EXFO adds multiservice 40G/100G capabilities to Power Blazer

July 8, 2013
Test and measurement specialist EXFO Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO) (TSX: EXF) says it has added a variety of 40-Gbps and 100-Gbps capabilities to its FTB/IQS-88100NGE Power Blazer integrated 10M-to-100G field modules. The new capabilities include 40 Gigabit Ethernet/100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) multi-stream traffic generation and monitoring, OC-768/STM-256 and OTU3 (43G) using 40GBase-FR serial CFPs, and OTU4 (112G) test.

The new 40GbE/100GbE multi-stream traffic generation and monitoring capabilities enable the configuration of up to 16 flows of traffic simultaneously, with data, voice, and video profiling, ramp, and burst traffic shaping. This enables service providers to simulate real-life 40G/100G traffic and validate their networks’ ability to handle and prioritize services. The multi-stream traffic generation and monitoring feature supports per-flow quality of service (QoS) metrics including throughput, latency, frame loss, packet jitter, and out-of-sequence. The system provides the results in simplified views with visual gauges.

EXFO offers this traffic generation and monitoring capability on the FTB/IQS-88100NGE Power Blazer and FTB/IQS-85100G Packet Blazer modules.

Meanwhile, the FTB/IQS-88100NGE Power Blazer also now supports OC-768/STM-256 and OTU3 (43G) optical rates and testing capabilities using 40GBase-FR serial CFPs and OTU4 (112G) using 100GBase-LR4 and 100GBase-LR10 CFP optical transceivers. Bit error rate (BER) testing capabilities at these data rates include per-channel power and frequency monitoring as well as delay and service disruption time measurements.

EXFO says its FTB-88100NGE Power Blazer is now uniquely optimized for field testing with support for 10M-to-100G applications on a single module.

“As the market moves toward 40G/100G field deployments, we are proud to extend our high-speed multiservice portfolio offering in response to carrier requirements,” said Claudio Mazzuca, vice-president of EXFO’s Transport and Service Assurance Division. “Our customers are under pressure to speed up service activation, increase revenues and maintain SLAs without compromising quality. Accordingly, we are committed to providing broad, simple, scalable and cost-effective 10M-to-100G testing capabilities that address challenges while meeting our NSP customers’ lab and field-testing needs.”
