Huawei Technologies Co Ltd. has been selected by True, a communications service provider in Thailand, to provide millions of True's 3G subscribers with diverse services using Huawei 400G core router line cards.

With the development of 3G mobile network services and extensive usage of intelligent terminals for online video services, there is an explosive growth in data traffic. This has created an urgent need for True, a communication conglomerate offering TV, broadband, mobile, and electronic cash and payment services in Thailand, to optimize its networks. In particular, it needed to expand the capacity of its IP core network and evolve it to a future-oriented network to improve its subscribers' experience.

Huawei asserts its core router NE5000E supports flexible networking of 100 Gigabit Ethernet ports, 40 Gigabit Ethernet ports, and 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports to provide an aggregate 400G capacity. The core router also can be smoothly upgraded to provide terabit-level capacity for the backbone network, the vendor claims (see “Huawei unveils terabit router line card, 100-Tbps cluster router”).

In addition, Huawei says its tests indicate that the energy efficiency ratio of Huawei 400G line cards is less than 1W/G. This means that carriers can deploy energy-saving networks with larger capacities with less investment.

"Traffic on the backbone network increases explosively as mobile broadband services and video services develop dramatically. It's time for the 400G technology to apply to live networks," said Gai Gang, president of Huawei’s carrier IP product line.
