South Africa’s Atec selects Tilgin for FTTH deployment

Swedish broadband access equipment vendor Tilgin AB says a South African fiber provider will base its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) deployment on Tilgin’s Flexible Premises Solution.

Swedish broadband access equipment vendor Tilgin AB says a South African fiber provider will base its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) deployment on Tilgin’s Flexible Premises Solution.

Atec Systems and Technologies will combine Tilgin’s fiber termination unit MSA970 with the home gateway HG2314, and use Tilgin’s TR-069 auto configuration server to manage the units.

Tilgin says this approach will enable Atec to create the offering that’s needed in every deployment. Atec will also save time and money thanks to zero-touch provisioning and simple customer self-installation procedures, the vendor claims.

“We have selected the Flexible Premises Solution to get maximum freedom at every customer installation,” said Riaan Janse van Rensburg, CTO of Atec. “The solution also optimizes the lifecycle cost, as the optical termination with all Gigabit interfaces has a long life expectancy whereas the service dependent gateway has a short lifespan, due to the evolution of our offer.”

Tilgin launched the Flexible Premises concept in 2012 and says it has scored several customer wins with operators in different countries, who are basing their FTTH/B strategy on Tilgin’s approach.

“Having flexible premises selected as preferred solution for FTTH deployments in South Africa, proves that our Flexible Premises Solution stands the test in any market,” said Mats Victorin CEO at Tilgin.
