Zayo deploys Infinera DTN-X to support 100GbE service delivery

Zayo Group LLC has revealed that Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN) has supplied its DTN-X packet-optical transport platform to support the fiber-optic network services provider’s previously announced move to 100 Gbps.

Zayo Group LLC has revealed that Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN) has supplied its DTN-X packet-optical transport platform to support the fiber-optic network services provider’s previously announced move to 100 Gbps.

Zayo revealed Infinera’s role in a press release announcing that it would use the DTN-X to supply 1-Tbps capacity via superchannel to the SCinet network for Super Computing 2013 (SC13) this week. The company also said it would use the show, and the DTN-X, to demonstrate rapid provisioning of 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE) services from the show floor at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver to Chicago.

"The delivery of terabit service on SCinet demonstrates how fast Zayo can deploy capacity for our customers," said David Dunn, vice president of wavelength product at Zayo. "Through our collaboration with Infinera on this deployment, we are demonstrating our ability to expand our 100GbE services to accommodate the bandwidth-driven needs of our customers.”

Zayo announced last December that it had begun to implement 100-Gbps technology on its network, but did not reveal where it was getting the technology (see “Zayo adds 100-Gbps optical transmission capability”). It subsequently provided more details of its deployment (see “Zayo Group offers 100G wavelength services to Northeast Corridor,”“Zayo adds 100 Gbps to Chicago-to-Memphis fiber link,” and “Zayo unveils West Coast 100G wavelength services”), as well as a 100G partnership with Internet2 (see “Zayo pairs with Internet2 to offer 100-Gbps optical network services”). The company is using the new capabilities to offer 100GbE services to such customers as research and education institutions, Internet content providers, and government agencies.
