Zhone debuts zNID FiberJACK wall-mount ONT for passive optical LANs

Nov. 14, 2013

Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZHNE) has released the Zhone 2800 Series FiberJACK Active Ethernet ONTs and GPON ONTs, which can be used in passive optical LAN as well as carrier fiber to the premises (FTTP) applications. The ONTs offer full residential gateway functionality in a low-profile wall-plate design that keeps power and fiber connections hidden within walls, the company says.

An efficient installation process such as that the Zhone 2800 Series FiberJACK ONTs offer is essential for enterprise and hospitality deployments that require secure, zero-footprint wideband access, Zhone asserts. Rental housing and campus housing deployments can similarly benefit. The company asserts that the wall-plate design ensures secure and uncluttered deployments with no exposed fiber or power. This prevents service loss due to accidental disconnection, tampering, or theft, Zhone explains.

Available AC and DC models, the ONTs also support easy provision of high-speed Internet access and IPTV services via the units’ flexible management features, Zhone says. Diagnostics in the ONT reduce service call disruption and enable operators to manage traffic on each ONT LAN port.

"Zhone's FiberJACK ONTs continue to drive innovation for passive optical LAN, addressing the needs of enterprise, hospitality, and campus environments, as well as service provider FTTH deployments, on a global scale," said Erik M. Keith, principal analyst for fixed access infrastructure at market intelligence firm Current Analysis. "Zhone's portfolio brings together a diverse combination of products and solutions that enable both enterprises and operators to deliver advanced, ultra-broadband services their end users require."

"Unlike other solutions on the market, the Zhone zNID FiberJACK supports a greater number of ports and can conveniently connect to IP phones, switches, and PCs, significantly reducing deployment costs. Thanks to essential functionality features such as supervision, monitoring, and maintenance, the zNID can easily be managed from remote sites," said Brian Caskey, chief marketing officer at Zhone Technologies. "Because of its technologically advanced design, installation of the zNID FiberJACK is efficient, cost-effective, and the solution provides a full range of services that help ensure operators deliver optimum experiences for their customers."
