Bharti Airtel Ltd. has upgraded its i2i submarine network between Chennai, India and Singapore to 100G using technology from Ciena Corp. (NYSE: CIEN), according to the optical transport systems vendor. The 3200-km undersea cable network now sports a 100G ROADM-based infrastructure that both increases capacity and improves service agility and resiliency, Ciena adds.
The submarine cable traffic runs over Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform. Bharti also will leverage Ciena’s OneControl Unified Management System for rapid service provisioning and end-to-end visibility of network performance.
“This upgrade is an excellent example of how the sophistication of Ciena’s converged packet optical and unified management solutions can help transform our customer’s networks to seize new business opportunities,” asserted Ryan Perera, Ciena’s country head for India. “Working with submarine operators to understand the demands being placed on their cables has given Ciena the expertise needed to help our customers scale their networks intelligently, turning new capacity rapidly into new sources of revenue.”
