BTI Systems offers BTI 7802 Series for metro networks

Software and optical transport systems developer BTI Systems has unveiled the BTI 7802 converged networking platform for metro and regional applications. The system, which features a compact two-slot design, offers upgrade options for MPLS Label Switch Routing (LSR), software-defined networking (SDN) control, and network functions virtualization (NFV).

The system, which features a compact two-slot design, offers upgrade options for MPLS label switch routing (LSR), software-defined networking (SDN) control, and network functions virtualization (NFV).

“Our new two-slot solution was purpose-built to offer service providers 10G, 40G, and 100G wavelength services in a small, cost-effective, and yet scalable package,” said BTI Vice President of Business Development Jim Hintze. “The converged platform also helps service providers future-proof their networks with roadmap support for higher-speed interfaces, comprehensive packet functions, as well as NFV and SDN capabilities for simplifying operations.”

The BTI 7802 is designed to enable service providers to quickly and efficiently deploy 10/100G capabilities in their metro networks via a scalable, carrier-grade platform that features built-in redundancy options for power, processors, and service modules. The system’s switching fabric supports connectivity between any port on any module, the company asserts. The system supports 48 ports of 10G in a 3RU design, which BTI says translates into power, cost, and space savings. BTI adds the system can be housed in any environment thanks to its integrated AC or DC power options.

The 7802 shares common modules and software with the BTI 7814, which means service providers can select the best platform for their service needs. The system also leverages BTI’s 100G coherent interface options and Dynamic Optical Layer capabilities to increase network capacity and improve spectral efficiency by 10X which reducing reduce space, power, and cooling costs, the company asserts. The 7802 also benefits from the BTI proNX Management and Control Software platforms.

With an eye toward future requirements, the BTI 7802 supports a scalable second slot for 10/100G interfaces, and will accommodate 400G and higher speeds in the future, BTI says. The system is software configurable for MPLS label switch routing and will support a compute module and open OS for executing virtualized network functions in an SDN/NFV.

The BTI 7802 is available immediately.
