Integra enhances wavelength services portfolio

Fiber-optic network services provider Integra Telecom Inc. has enhanced its wavelength service portfolio with higher bandwidths and new network redundancy options. Available across Integra's metro and long-haul fiber footprint, the new service options offer increased capacity with improved latency and network diversity for bandwidth-intensive applications and business-critical data, Integra asserts.

Fiber-optic network services provider Integra Telecom Inc. has enhanced its wavelength service portfolio with higher bandwidths and new network redundancy options. Available across Integra's metro and long-haul fiber footprint, the new service options offer increased capacity with improved latency and network diversity for bandwidth-intensive applications and business-critical data, Integra asserts.

New 40G and 100G bandwidths join previously available 1G, 2.5G, and 10G options to provide enterprise, government, and wholesale customers with a full range of alternatives to align network performance with the needs of their high-bandwidth data transport applications (see "Integra adds 100 Gbps to fiber-optic network with Ciena"). Applications such as data center connectivity, networked storage, WAN services, and cloud connectivity will realize significant benefits from the high-bandwidth, low-latency data transport offered by Integra's fully managed, private, and dedicated network services, Integra says.

In addition to increased bandwidth options, Integra has introduced Path Protection services, offering a single-provider-based service for cost-efficient network diversity and business continuity over long-haul and metro wavelengths, with service availability guarantees of up to 99.99%. Path protection establishes an end-to-end alternative transmission path between designated customer premises with Integra-provided failover switching, giving customers such as regional carriers, data centers, and social network providers diverse network routes between long-haul points of presence and their target metro markets.

Path Protection also supports data transmissions and video streaming applications with sub-50-ms switching. For long-haul routes such as Integra's recently enabled network segment between Salt Lake City and Sacramento, Path Protection services further minimize latency on both primary and redundant routes. Two-fiber and four-fiber Path Protection circuits are available, offering alternatives for service levels and failover management.

"Since their introduction, Integra's Wavelength Services have become a solution of choice among customers across the enterprise as well as those in government and education who want a fully managed, private and dedicated network they can rely on without a high cost or management overhead," said Michael Kozlowski, Integra's vice president of product management. "With these upgrades, our Wavelengths solutions can be tailored to meet the performance and continuity requirements of any customer in our footprint."

The 40G and 100G bandwidth options and Path Protection are available today for new and existing Wavelength Services customers served by Integra's 11-state, 35-metro area fiber network. For carriers, data centers and large enterprise customers in Northern California, Nevada and Utah, Integra says its new network segment from Salt Lake City to Sacramento offers an ideal primary network route for Path Protection services. The 865-mile network expansion delivers high-bandwidth, low-latency data transport to Integra metro networks in those cities as well as Reno and the San Francisco Bay Area via Integra's long-haul fiber backbone.
