UTStarcom launches TN765 packet-optical platform

UTStarcom Holdings Corp. (NASDAQ: UTSI) has launched an MPLS-TP and Carrier Ethernet-based packet-optical transport network system. The TN765 packet-optical transport system, which was previewed in March at OFC 2014, bolsters UTStarcom's TN700 product family that is the bedrock of its broadband infrastructure business. The launch closely follows the August 2013 debut of the TN701, an Ethernet Access Device (EAD), which extends UTStarcom's TN series to the network edge.

The TN765 packet-optical transport system, which was previewed in March at OFC 2014, bolsters UTStarcom's TN700 product family that is the bedrock of its broadband infrastructure business. The launch closely follows the August 2013 debut of the TN701, an Ethernet access device (EAD), which extends UTStarcom's TN series to the network edge.

UTStarcom says these products demonstrate the strength of its product pipeline and ability to commercialize innovations that improve quality of service, network throughput maximization, and operational efficiency to create a new class of telecommunications network infrastructure.

"We continue to expand the TN700 series product platform with innovations that demonstrate our technical leadership and further strengthen our competitive market position," asserts William Wong, UTStarcom's chief executive officer. "This new entry to our TN series also provides a future-proof upgrade path to our SOO [software-defined open optical] networking platform."

UTStarcom's latest innovations are specifically geared toward the needs of its customer base of telecommunications and broadband service providers who need to bulk up their networks to handle 4G mobile data traffic and meet consumers' growing desire for mobile, video, and on-demand entertainment. The TN700 line offers new features to enable quicker deployment, greater reliability and improved network operational efficiency, while reducing cost significantly, the systems vendor asserts.

The TN765 builds on the attributes and features of UTStarcom's TN700 product family, which already include MPLS-TP and Carrier Ethernet technologies; carrier-class sub-50-ms protection; QoS/SLA guarantees; centralized network management capabilities; network-wide time/clock synchronization; high-bandwidth efficiency of packet networks; and 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) support.

The TN765 product adds further capabilities, including enhanced throughput of up to 1 Tbps to support higher aggregation levels, 100GbE interface support, and multiple 10GbE interfaces for more efficient network deployment.

Shipments of the TN765 began in March. The platform will be used to support the network of a Tier 1 carrier in Japan, which has one of the most advanced mobile and fixed line Internet and communications networks worldwide, says UTStarcom.
