Credo Semiconductor offers SerDes for 55-Gbps NRZ signaling

April 14, 2014
Credo Semiconductor says it has developed the first serializer/deserializer (SerDes) that can support 55-Gbps NRZ signaling. The company has targeted the 40-nm CMOS SerDes at 40G/100G/400G data center and enterprise networking applications.

Credo Semiconductor says it has developed the first serializer/deserializer (SerDes) that can support 55-Gbps NRZ signaling. The company has targeted the 40-nm CMOS SerDes at 40G/100G/400G data center and enterprise networking applications.

The company asserts the device offers low jitter, low power, and low latency. It also provides Tx pre-emphasis equalization, RX continuous time linear equalization (CTLE), and decision feedback equalization (DFE). Credo adds that the SerDes has been tested at 50-Gbps across a test channel with more than 30 dB loss at Nyquist frequency. This result demonstrates that NRZ signaling can be extended well beyond 28 Gbps, Credo believes.

“Credo has achieved an industry-first speed breakthrough that will enable innovative applications ranging from 100 Gbps to 400 Gbps for the data center and enterprise networking markets,” said Bill Brennan, CEO of Credo Semiconductor. "Credo's advanced SerDes technologies prove the feasibility of extending NRZ signaling, even at data rates up to 56 Gbps per lane, which is currently under consideration by [the] OIF CEI-56G study group and IEEE 400G study group for next-generation board-level chip-to-chip interconnections.

“Credo has quickly established a leadership position in SerDes data rates, and we will add to our position by delivering solutions with compelling power and loss handling in advanced geometries (28 nm and 16 nmFF+) in 2014,” Brennan concluded.

Credo Semiconductor says it will offer private demonstrations of its technology to potential business partners.
