In response to the escalating bandwidth needs of local businesses, Minnesota-based communications provider Nextera Communications says it is adding an extensive new fiber-optic network to its portfolio of Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) options that also include fixed wireless, T-1, and Ethernet over copper.

Minnesota businesses are experiencing rapidly increasing bandwidth demands due to cloud computing, video, online data uploads, downloads, IT virtualization, bring-your-own-device (BYOD) practices, and business continuity support, the company says. As a result, industry experts predict a 58% annual growth rate in bandwidth needs. To accommodate this growth, Nextera recommends the use of DIA for all business enterprises. DIA differs from consumer-grade Internet because it provides unshared bandwidth as well as symmetrical upload and download speeds, Nextera asserts.

The service provider expects its new fiber infrastructure to deliver higher bandwidth and symmetrical connectivity with benefits including service level agreements (SLAs) that guarantee uptime, packet delivery, latency, and throughput. The new high-speed network also will offer connectivity that can keep pace with the heavy bandwidth requirements of digital communications, the cloud, and massive data downloads. “Fiber is the future – and its scalable architecture can expand with a company as needs continue to grow,” the company said in its press statement.

Nextera Communications is currently offering opportunities for 2014 spring and summer installation as new fiber construction gets underway.
