Semiconductor supplier Microsemi Corp. (NASDAQ: MSCC) says it has reached an agreement to acquire optoelectronic component and subsystem developer Centellax. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, and neither was the expected date of the transaction’s close.

The pending sale follows Centellax’s divestiture of its test and measurement business to Agilent Technologies in 2012 (see "Agilent acquires Centellax T&M business"). That transaction left the company to focus on its optoelectronics business, which included offerings for high-speed optical communications applications (see, for example, "Centellax releases quad-channel 28G modulator driver amplifier") as well as RF uses.

Microsemi highlighted Centellax’s capabilities in millimeter-wave engineering and high-speed digital design as catalysts for the buy

"The high-speed design and packaging capabilities of Centellax are at the very edge," said James J. Peterson, Microsemi's chairman and CEO. "We welcome this talented Centellax team to Microsemi and we look forward to incorporating its leading-edge designs into our ever expanding communications product portfolio, ensuring our customers continue to rely upon us as their total solutions provider."

Nevertheless, Microsemi says it does not expect the transaction to have a material effect on its revenues or expenses.
