In the second, Citycom, part of Graz City Council (Die Holding Graz), will upgrade its backbone and metro networks.

Energie AG Data is the telecommunications department of Energie AG, the largest utilities services provider in the region. It operates a network that spans more than 5,000 km that supports the provision of Internet access, VoIP, security, and hosting services. Its target customers include enterprises, utilities, healthcare providers, and schools.

The service provider will leverage a variety of packet networking platforms in its deployment, including the 3902, 3916, and 3930 Service Delivery Switches; the 5142, 5150, and 5160 Service Aggregation Switches; and the 8700 Packetwave Platform.

Meanwhile, in Graz, Citycom is modernizing its backbone and metro fiber-optic networks, the latter of which spans 1,200 km. Citycom leverages its metro network and a pair of data centers to offer Ethernet business services, including carrier wholesale and last-mile connectivity via FTTP to public sector, enterprise, and small and medium sized business (SMB) customers. The backbone nationwide packet-optical transport network connects third-party carriers and international partners in major cities across Austria, including Vienna, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Klagenfurt, Linz, Wels, and Gleisdorf.

The fiber-optic cable network upgrade includes deliver of the 6500 Packet Optical Platform, 8700 Packetwave Platform, 5142 and 5160 Service Aggregation Switches, and the 3902, 3916 and 3930 Service Delivery Switches. Ciena says that use of its OneControl platform also will enable Citycom to differentiate its services with rapid provisioning and proactive monitoring.
