Finisar (NASDAQ: FNSR) has made a pair of announcements from the test and measurement side of the house. The company has added reprogrammable MxN port configuration capabilities to its WaveShaper 16000S Programmable Optical Processor. Finisar also has upgraded the signal analysis features of the WaveAnalyzer 1500S High Resolution Optical Spectrum Analyzer.

The WaveShaper 16000S now comes with new port configurations beyond the original 4x16. The system now supports 1x19, 8x12 and 10x10 port configurations. It remains possible to apply user-defined filter functions with arbitrary shape in amplitude and phase between any input and any output port. Flexible port allocation plays well in research on software-defined networks (SDN), Finisar points out.

Meanwhile, the WaveAnalyzer 1500S now offers signal analysis capability for optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) measurements in real time with update rates of up to 10 Hz. Finisar says the WaveAnalyzer's six-point OSNR measurement technique enables OSNR measurements on densely spaced channels by exploiting the high spectral resolution (150 MHz) of the instrument.

Both instruments can be controlled using Finisar's intuitive graphical user interface packages or simple application programming interface (API). The API is available for both Windows and Linux operating systems.

Both instruments are available now for shipping in April 2015. They will be on display at OFC from March 24 to 26, 2015 at Finisar's booth #1403.
