Fiber-optic network services provider Zayo Group Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:ZAYO) says it now has line-side 100-Gbps capability in its London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and Paris metro networks. The enhancements, completed recently, are part of a strategy to create a fully integrated, seamless long-haul platform.

Zayo says it has consolidated a large number of legacy point-to-point wavelength connections into single 100G pipes based on coherent transmission. The move increases spectral efficiencies and reduces physical footprint and power requirements. Zayo expects the upgrade to improve its ability to deliver seamless, low-latency services across its metro, national, and European footprints.

"This extension of our London metro network will enable us to be more efficient and provide a significantly reduced port cost for our customers," predicted Leeland Pavey, chief operations officer for Zayo Europe. "Extending our 100G capability so we can offer this capacity to our customers is important for Zayo."

Zayo said it completed the 100G upgrade of its London metro network at the end of 2014. Other European metro upgrades, including Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Paris, were completed during the first quarter of 2015.
