IIX Inc., which describes itself as a global software-defined interconnection company, says it has acquired IX Reach Ltd., which is about to become a software-defined interconnection company. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Silicon Valley-based IIX leverages its SDI platform to offer customers programmable interconnection services. Such programmability allows content providers, data center providers, ISPs, carriers, and enterprise customers to more directly control their connections as well as improve security, reduce costs, optimize network performance, and extend network reach globally, IIX asserts.

The company has implemented an aggressive expansion strategy aimed at increasing its global footprint. IIX has announced $20 million in funding from TriplePoint Capital to fuel its plans.

IX Reach offers such wholesale carrier services as IX remote peering, low-latency global high-speed point-to-point and multipoint capacity, metro and DWDM connectivity in major cities, enterprise business IP, BGP transit, cloud connectivity, and colocation. The acquisition of IX Reach will bring to more than 150 the number of points of presence (PoP) across markets in the USA, Europe, Middle East, and Asia that IIX can serve. As a result of the deal, Stephen Wilcox, IX Reach's founder and CEO, was named IIX's president of EMEA and chief of global networks.

"IX Reach, together with IIX and its software platform, enables the combined organization to emerge with global operations and unite leading expertise in both software and network engineering," said Wilcox. "I'm excited to join the IIX leadership team and help drive its rapid expansion across the globe."
