Japan Internet Exchange Co., Ltd. (JPIX) has deployed Infinera's (NASDAQ:INFN) Cloud Xpress for data center interconnectivity within metro Tokyo, according to the packet-optical transport systems vendor.

Japan's first commercial IX provider, JPIX offers carrier-neutral facilities through which telecom, cloud, and wholesale service providers can exchange traffic and connect with enterprise customers. Deployment of the Cloud Xpress enables scalable interconnection among JPIX's facilities, Infinera says. For example, JPIX can now scale bandwidth in 100-Gbps increments without hardware changes, according to Infinera, thanks to the Cloud Xpress's ability to support 1 Tbps of input and output capacity in two rack units (see "Infinera ships Cloud Xpress platform").

"As Japan's fastest growing commercial IX service, we continue to enhance our network to ensure the efficient flow of data in the metro Cloud for Internet users in Japan and globally," said Yoshiki Ishida, JPIX CEO. "The Infinera Cloud Xpress allows us to interconnect all of our sites while only requiring a small amount of space and power. And the platform provides us operational benefits that massively simplify what it takes to deploy the network."
