Ekinops unveils 200G muxponder for data center interconnect

June 22, 2015
Optical transport systems vendor Ekinops has introduced at 200-Gbps muxponder to address data center Interconnect (DCI) requirements. The system requires less than 130 W per 200-Gbps optical transmission, the company asserts.

Optical transport systems vendor Ekinops has introduced at 200-Gbps muxponder to address data center Interconnect (DCI) requirements. The system requires less than 130 W per 200-Gbps optical transmission, the company asserts.

The 200G muxponder can accommodate a pair of 200G interfaces in 2RU and six such interfaces in 7RU. That equates to more than 35 Tbps in a 44RU rack. The Ekinops platform will support 128 channels in the C-Band, for a total of 25.6 Tbps per fiber. It can transmit wavelengths at 37.5 GHz, 50 GHz, or 100 GHz spacing.

Based on 16-QAM coherent transmission, the system will support a reach of 160 km without regeneration.

On the client side, the systems support 8G Fibre Channel as well as 10G, 40G, and 100G Ethernet ports.
