Telco Systems has released the T-Marc 3308, which the company asserts is the first demarcation device to support Carrier Ethernet 2.0, MPLS, IP Layer 3, and software-defined networking (SDN) in the same box.

Telco Systems has released the T-Marc 3308, which the company asserts is the first demarcation device to support Carrier Ethernet 2.0, MPLS, IP Layer 3, and software-defined networking (SDN) in the same box.

The T-Marc 3308 is designed to enable service providers to use either Carrier Ethernet or MPLS to the network edge without incurring additional software costs. In MPLS mode, the device enables service providers to engineer data paths based on different attributes while offering strong link protection, fast switchover times, and sub-50-ms resiliency, the company says. For use in SDN environments, the T-Marc 3308 is compatible with OpenFlow and NETCONF.

Telco Systems sees the T-Marc 3308 as applicable to the needs of wholesale and business service providers. Its Carrier Ethernet features help such providers support a variety of service types while ensuring that service-level agreement (SLA) requirements are met.

The T-Marc 3308 supports zero-touch provisioning. It features a small size (1RU tall by 0.5 shelf width) but includes a variety of fiber ports. It also features an internal power supply and an optional external redundant AC power supply.
