Fiber-optic network services provider Zayo Group Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:ZAYO) has revealed plans to extend its long-haul dark fiber network between Atlanta and Washington, DC. The extension will add more than 800 route miles to service provider's current 19,000 long-haul route miles.

Zayo says it will begin deploying the new fiber-optic cable in the third calendar quarter of this year, with the expectation that it will complete the expansion in the fourth calendar quarter of 2017.

The route expansion will provide Zayo’s customers with direct access to carrier hotels and data centers across such markets as Atlanta, Charlotte and Raleigh, NC, Richmond and Ashburn, VA, and Washington, DC. The infrastructure will support Zayo’s full product portfolio, which includes dark fiber, wavelength, and Ethernet and IP services.

The East Coast expansion follows the announcement that Zayo also will deploy a new long-haul dark fiber route from Phoenix to Dallas. This route will add more than 1,200 route miles to Zayo’s long-haul network, and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2016.
