Yahoo Japan taps Transmode WDM for data center interconnect

Yahoo Japan has deployed 10-Gbps metro WDM systems from Transmode to boost capacity between the nodes that connect to Yahoo Japan's data centers and their service provider customer base. The packet-optical transport systems vendor says that its new customer has deployed elements of its TM-Series to do the data center interconnect job.

The deployment occurred "some months" ago, according to a Transmode press release. Since then the WDM systems have been "totally reliable and stable," the systems vendor adds.

The fiber-optic network upgrade comes as Yahoo Japan adapts to increased traffic from both residential and business services. The uptick in services demand has increased capacity requirements between its data center facilities.

Yahoo Japan selected the TM-Series for its small footprint, low power consumption, and overall cost-effectiveness, Transmode asserts.

"We were looking for a solution which had a small footprint, low power consumption, and which offered flexible design from low to high-capacity and would enable us to dynamically expand network-capacity when required," confirmed Nobuhiro Takasawa, vice president and technical director, System Management Group at Yahoo Japan. "Transmode's TM-Series met these demands but, most importantly, its Enlighten management system is simple to understand and enables easier day-to day operation."

Local partner ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corp. assisted in the sale.
