Japan's Energia Communications to deploy G.fast commercially with Nokia

Following a successful field trial, Energia Communications (EneCom) has decided to move forward with the first commercial launch of G.fast technology in Japan. Nokia will supply the transmission equipment.

Following a successful field trial, Energia Communications (EneCom) has decided to move forward with the first commercial launch of G.fast technology in Japan. Nokia will supply the transmission equipment.

EneCom will begin the commercial G.fast rollout in the Chugokua region of Japan starting this June. It will use Nokia's 7367 Intelligent Service Access Manager (ISAM) SX-16, which delivers 16 vectored G.fast ports in a climate-controlled and ruggedized housing unit; the 7368 ISAM CPE F-010G-P, with non-blocking gigabit Ethernet connections for home devices; and the 5520 Access Management System.

The field trial, announced last June, paired G.fast with TWDM-PON (see "Energia Communications tests G.fast, TWDM-PON in Japan"). Whether these new G.fast deployments will also leverage TWDM-PON is unclear.
