NTT Communications offers connections between exchanges in Japan, Singapore

NTT Communications Corp. says it now offers connections between the colocation facilities of the Japan Exchange Group (JPX) and Singapore Exchange (SGX) with a latency as low as 63.5 ms.

NTT Communications Corp. says it now offers connections between the colocation facilities of the Japan Exchange Group (JPX) and Singapore Exchange (SGX) with a latency as low as 63.5 ms.

The link connects JPX's Access Point 3-equipped data center (AP3 center) and SGX's data center. NTT says it measured the 63.5-ms latency using a 1-Gbps test cable and 1000Base-LX/64-bite packet environment. The carrier notes that this figure may change depending on the total network environment.

For example, NTT says it has provided the JPX-SGX Co-Location Direct service with 63.7-ms latency between JPX and SGX since April 2015 running over the Asia Submarine Cable Express (ASE) submarine cable route between Japan and Singapore. The carrier says it can now offer the 63.5-ms figure because it added its own point of presence (PoP) at the AP3 center in a location that connects to the landing point via the shortest possible route. The new PoP connects directly to the structured cable, eliminating the need for an external connection and therefore reducing the lead time.

NTT expects the new connectivity option, part of JPX's "JPX Co-Location Service (all)" offering, will prove popular ahead of JPX's planned integration of colocation services for its Tokyo and Osaka exchanges and the integration of the Tokyo Stock Exchange into the JPX platform, which is scheduled for 2016.
