RF and mixed-signal communications semiconductor specialist MaxLinear Inc. (NYSE: MXL) has unveiled the MxL9103, a single-channel 28-Gbps linear transimpedance amplifier (TIA). The device is applicable to low-power PAM-4 and discrete multi-tone (DMT) optical transceivers for data center transceivers.

RF and mixed-signal communications semiconductor specialist MaxLinear Inc. (NYSE: MXL) has unveiled the MxL9103, a single-channel 28-Gbps linear transimpedance amplifier (TIA). The device is applicable to low-power PAM-4 and discrete multi-tone (DMT) optical transceivers for data center transceivers.

The MxL9103 features power consumption of 140 mW as well as the total harmonic distortion (THD) performance (3% typical) and ultra-wide bandwidth necessary to support the linearity PAM4 and DMT require, according to the company.

The MxL9103 provides an automatic-gain-control function for simplified interface design and system control scheme between the TIA and the digital signal processor (DSP). It also integrates received-signal-strength-indicator (RSSI), output shutdown, bandwidth control, and photodetector bias voltage functions on-chip.

The TIA also can be applied to SFP28 low-power optical transceiver module designs, the company adds.

The MxL9103 is sampling now.
