IP Light supports enhanced CPRI over OTN via Orion IP core

Israeli communications semiconductor technology startup IP Light Inc. has announced its first IP core product and its first customer. The product, the Orion IPL8001MX, is an IP core that supports the transmission of enhanced CPRI signals over Optical Transport Network (OTN) fiber-optic network infrastructure. Taiwan's Loop Telecom will use the core as part of its centralized radio access network (C-RAN) mobile fronthaul product offerings.

Israeli communications semiconductor technology startup IP Light Inc. has announced its first IP core product and its first customer. The product, the Orion IPL8001MX, is an IP core that supports the transmission of enhanced CPRI signals over Optical Transport Network (OTN) fiber-optic network infrastructure. Taiwan's Loop Telecom will use the core as part of its centralized radio access network (C-RAN) mobile fronthaul product offerings.

The Orion IPL8001MX IP core combines up to six CPRI option 3 or three CPRI option 4 or 5 signals into a single OTN OTU2r bearer. It complies with the newly minted ITU-T SG15 G Series Supplement 56 Section 8 recommendation for the transport of CPRI signals over OTN. IP Light asserts the new ITU-T specification derives from IP Light's work in this area.

As per the new specification, the Orion IP core enables the mapping and multiplexing of CPRI signals and their transport via the newly defined OTU2r while meeting CPRI's jitter, latency/Round Trip Time, delay accuracy, and symmetry requirements.

IP Light demonstrated the technology at OFC 2015 in Xilinx's booth.

In addition to the IP cores, IP Light also is developing OTN processors, including the Apodis I and II families.
