Wave2Wave REVOL MXC optical interconnect line receives US Conec certification

Data center interconnectivity specialists Wave2Wave Solution says the MXC and PRIZM MT elements of its REVOL product family have received US Conec MXC certification. The line has gained significant traction, including design wins that have resulted in production shipments, according to David Wang, the company's founder and CEO, for board-level optical applications.

The MXC debuted at OFC 2014, developed by US Conec and adapted by Intel and Corning for interconnect to be used with Intel's Rack Scale Architecture. While the Intel/Corning offering was closely positioned with Intel's silicon photonics-based transceiver efforts, Intel's stumbles in that area have not diminished interest in the MXC for a variety of mid-board optics applications, Wang says. He reveals that Wave2Wave has engagements with companies looking to use versions of the MXC for ASIC connections to backplanes and boards, for EDR InfiniBand use, and for SoC emulation equipment, among others.

Wang says the company is in volume production with MXC interconnect products based on single row and double-row connectors, where most of the current demand resides. The company is in sampling interconnect products with four-row connectors, which would use either 48 or 64 fibers.

The MXC products are part of the larger RÉVOL product family of board-level connectivity products, which include support of silicon photonics interconnect. The family features offerings for "light on board," "light on chip," optical light turn, and integrated applications.
