Telco Systems earns mobile backhaul upgrade deal from Tier 1 carrier

May 2, 2016
Telco Systems says it has won a contract extension from what it described as "a Tier 1 wholesale carrier of Ethernet mobile backhaul services in the United States." The contract calls for Telco Systems to provide systems that will help the carrier, which it did not further identify, to provision 10-Gbps Ethernet mobile backhaul services throughout the U.S. Northeast.

Northeast.

The systems house will supply demarcation and aggregation devices from its T-Marc line. This includes what Telco Systems says will be hundreds of T-Marc 3348 demarcation devices. The company says that 2,500 T-Marc devices are already in place in the customer's network.

The T-Marc 3348 comes in three versions: a standard temperature-grade version for installation in environmentally controlled shelters; an extended temperature-hardened version for installation in non-environmentally controlled cabinets; and a fully weatherized version for standalone installation within cell tower properties. Telco Systems did not specify which versions it will supply as part of the new contract.

The upgrade will see current 1-Gbps fiber-optic rings upgraded to 10-Gbps capabilities. The work will help the carrier meet the growing bandwidth demands of 4G/LTE and future 5G deployments.
