Distributor Fiber Optic Center, Inc. (FOC) has added several products to its portfolio ahead of next month's ECOC 2016. The new offerings include the fibersect from Phenix Fiber Optics and the Hernon Tuffbond 302 epoxy adhesive (packaged by ÄngströmBond) to the company's epoxy and connectorization line as well as Viavi Solutions' FiberChek Probe to FOC's test and measurement family.

The FiberChek is an all-in-one handheld fiber inspection tool designed for technicians at every skill level. It offers built-in image viewing, auto-focus, pass/fail analysis, storage, and recall to automate inspection workflows to ensure fast and accurate performance.

In the epoxy and connector realm, the fibersect cuts off the epoxy from the face of all MT ferrules (include those for 4, 8, 12, 16, 24, 48, and 72 fibers) during MTP/MPO connector processing. Adapters can be switched to cut either 0° (flat) or 8° angled MT ferrules; other adapters are available to cut all single fiber ferrules and connectors as well. The system produces a flat cut, very close to the ferrule face, that presents what FOC says is the ideal surface for polishing, with improved end-face geometry. Use of the system will improve throughput and first pass yield by eliminating manual steps and minimizing polishing, FOC adds.

Meanwhile, the Tuffbond 302 epoxy is used for potting and encapsulation. It consistently performs under temperature cycling from -54C to 85C, says FOC. It is a high viscosity material that flows well and cures fast – it's a "5 minute epoxy," according to FOC. The epoxy will not absorb humidity, which gives it moisture as well as chemical and heat resistance.

In addition to it optical uses, the epoxy also can bond metals, wood, ceramics, etc., and can be used for potting and encapsulation of electrical and electronic components.

FOC will be found at stand 706 at ECOC 2016 in Düsseldorf, Germany, September 19-21, 2016.
