Data network service and infrastructure provider GlobeNet has expanded its reach in Brazil with connectivity to internet exchange points (IXPs) in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The new connections enhance GlobeNet's IP and infrastructure as a service (IaaS) offerings in the country.

CGI.br manages both IXPs. The new connections reduce costs by eliminating the need for third-party networks, allowing traffic balances to be resolved directly and locally, GlobeNet asserts. Network providers also can route traffic as close to the desired destination as possible.

GlobeNet now provides direct internet connectivity to the IXPs at speeds ranging from 50 Mbps to 10Gbps; the connections suffer from no over-subscription and provide rapid scalability, the company says. Via the GlobeNet International Internet Exchange (GNIIX), internet service providers (ISPs) can access content and advertise their networks at the most relevant IXPs via a local connection managed by the customer as well (see "GlobeNet opens GNIIX international Internet exchange"). For example, ISPs in Fortaleza can have a presence at both Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro via GlobeNet's services. Finally, a virtual router is available in SP2 Sao Paulo Internet Exchange for ISPs and carriers requiring a presence in the facility.

Meanwhile, to meet the demand for IaaS, GlobeNet says it is expanding its colocation facilities in Rio de Janeiro and providing service bundles.

The company specializes in providing connectivity within the Americas (see, for example, "GlobeNet offers 100-Gbps wavelengths between Brazil, US").
