Nokia receives another Broadband China contract from China Mobile

In what is becoming an annual event, Nokia says it has received a contract to supply more than 30% of China Mobile's optical networking hardware needs as the carrier deploys a 100-Gbps fiber-optic network. The fiber cable infrastructure will support the rollout of 4G mobile broadband services as part of China Mobile's "Broadband China" strategy.

The supply agreement is part of Nokia's 2016 overall frame agreement with China Mobile (see "Nokia signs new frame agreement with China Mobile"). The systems house will deploy a 100-Gbps Optical Transport Network (OTN) and DWDM backbone using the company's recently announced 1830 PSS-24X packet optical transport system. The system leverages a four-port 100G DWDM line card that contains Nokia's Photonic Service Engine 2 Compact (PSE-2c) ASIC (see "Nokia upgrades 1830 PSS packet-optical transport family with new coherent chipsets, improved multi-rate performance"). The card accepts CFP2 analog coherent optics (ACO) pluggable optical transceivers.

Alcatel-Lucent, which Nokia acquired last year, has a longstanding relationship with China Mobile in support of the Broadband China initiative as well as other infrastructure expansion projects (see "Alcatel-Lucent wins Broadband China framework deals with China Mobile and China Unicom").
