The global data and IP services arm of NTT Group, NTT Communications Corp. plans to expand its Tier-1 global IT network with two new points-of-presence (PoPs) at e-shelter facilities in Berlin and Frankfurt. e-shelter is a European data center operator and a subsidiary of NTT Communications.

The first new PoP will be located at e-shelter's Datacenter Campus Frankfurt 1 to create the service provider's fourth location in the city. With about 60,000 square meters of data center and technical space, this carrier-neutral, secured facility is e-shelter's main site and Europe's largest individual data center location, NTT says. The new Berlin PoP is at e-shelter's Campus Berlin site, the second largest site in Germany with 13,000 square meters in the administrative district of Spandau.

"These PoPs will help us continue to offer our growing number of customers in Germany and neighboring countries the high-performance IP solutions they need to support content, online video, hosting, gaming, and other bandwidth-intensive applications," says Clive Hamilton, vice president of network services for NTT Europe.

With the addition of two new European PoPs, NTT Communications hopes to facilitate the delivery of reliable, high-quality IP services to internet-centric businesses, service providers, and content providers in Germany while offering additional connectivity options to foreign companies seeking additional services in German markets. Customers will gain access to the company's global IP network and IP transit services, Layer 2 Ethernet offerings, and DDoS protection service.
