ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN) says that the Georgia resort city of Tybee Island has leveraged the company's network as a service offering via managed service provider partner Speros. The company's ProCloud Subscription Services bundle enterprise network infrastructure and cloud-managed services that enable the city's IT department to offload switch management and day-to-day network maintenance activities, ADTRAN says.
Located on a barrier island off the coast of Savannah, the city welcomes as many as 50,000 visitors or more each weekend. The City of Tybee's IT managers have found the network as a service offering an effective and economical way of keeping pace with the demands such an influx places on city network resources.
"Our island has quickly grown into a very popular tourist destination, and we need the network backbone necessary to support thousands of users on a daily basis. As a small IT department, we required a complete infrastructure and managed service that could help offload the management of our switches, while also providing a cost-effective solution to meet the needs for everyone on the island," said Todd Smith, information technology director for the City of Tybee Island.
"An ADTRAN network as a service offers us a really powerful infrastructure and arms us with the capacity we'll need to grow for the future, all without the headache of traditional capital expenditures. And by working with Speros, we can operate like a large IT department without having to add any more staff, while remaining confident in our ability to keep up with the network demands of tourists, city officials and vital public safety services," Smith added.
Speros uses the ADTRAN ProCloud Subscription Services as a platform to manage and maintain all of the city's installed switches and create a holistic view of the network. The city's network is able to support more mobile devices from tourists as well as the needs of local police and EMS units. These latter needs include communications for IP cameras, traffic monitoring systems, and license plate readers.
