Calix, Inc. (NYSE: CALX) says it has supplied AXOS G.fast distribution point unit (DPU) nodes and GigaFamily customer premises equipment (CPE) to Windstream (NASDAQ: WIN). The service provider is using the equipment to enable high-speed broadband services to multiple multi-dwelling units (MDUs) in Lincoln, NE. The broadband access network systems supplier says Windstream plans to use the E3-16F G.fast sealed DPU nodes and GigaFamily products in other markets as well.

Windstream has elected to use G.fast in MDUs with in-place copper and coaxial wiring to reach additional potential subscribers. "In a growing community like Lincoln with a large number of college students and young professionals, MDUs are both an opportunity and a challenge for service providers looking to enable a robust subscriber experience," said Art Nichols, Windstream vice president of network architecture and technology. "With the AXOS G.fast solution from Calix, we can quickly and easily deliver this experience by leveraging our existing copper infrastructure. We see subscribers in MDUs as a key market opportunity for us, and we are looking forward to leveraging Calix AXOS G.fast solutions to bring our ultra-fast services to this audience."

The CPE systems Calix has delivered include the 801FB GigaPoint termination point that supports bonded G.fast and the 844E GigaCenter (see "Calix offers G.fast line for MDUs").
