Partnering with Compass Data Centers, TierPoint LLC announced plans to build a new data center in the Dallas metro area. The plan calls for approximately 90,000 square feet of building space in Allen, TX, including 16,000 square feet of raised space – at an investment of more than $20 million.

The carrier-neutral facility also will include infrastructure support and office space. TierPoint expects the facility to become operational by the spring of 2017.

"The location we selected in Allen is beneficial for several reasons, says Chris Parsons, regional vice president at TierPoint. "It offers an ideal disaster recovery option for our current customers and provides expansion capabilities for them while remaining local. Allen is a high-tech community in the rapidly-growing US 75/State Highway 121 corridor, offering easy access from all points in North Texas and close proximity to the IT workforce, rapidly expanding population, and business growth in the area."

TierPoint's first Dallas data center came by way of acquiring Colo4Dallas in 2010. The original 68,000 square foot facility, built in 2000, was one of the first in the area to provide true 2N power, which helps prevent outages. Since then, TierPoint has added 38 more data centers, with the new Dallas facility bringing the nationwide total to 40. The company purchased some of these data centers from Windstream last year (see "Windstream to sell data center business to TierPoint").
